If we are talking about shopping for 7 inch tablets with the price under $200 then the choice is really easy, there are plenty of those on the market, however it’s not so easy finding the best 10 inch tablet under 200 dollars. As you will see, there are not so many options in the price range. The advantage is that these few options are great slates, with nice quality and satisfying specs.
This first example, the Nook HD+, is not exactly a best 10 inch tablet under 200 dollars for just one reason: it’s 1 inch short, having a 9 inch display. Even so, the price is less than $200, incredibly affordable, and the specs are truly amazing. This slate is a fantastic bargain and it brings great value to its users, things that are much appreciated by me. There’s also another model launched by B&N called Nook HD which is a 7 inch tablet with 8GB of storage space and a display with a slightingly lower resolution.
The Nook HD+ is firstly a tablet with a really low price tag. Continuing this line of advantages, it has a beautiful display and the image quality is quite superior, even though there is no ambient light sensor. Moreover, it has a particular thing that I want in a gadget: the possibility of increasing storage space. So it features a microSD slot. It doesn’t feature other connectors like micro USB or mini HDMI ports. Another spec missing from the list is a built-in camera.
If we take another look at the exterior design, we will also discover a home button in the middle of the bottom bezel and dual speakers in the lower back. The back is made of smooth plastic and it feels really nice.
The 9 inch TFT active matrix display features a high resolution – 1,920 x 1,280-pixels, meaning Full HD resolution 1080p. It’s just perfect for entertainment purposes as well as enjoying an e-book. It becomes even more amazing when you think that it’s sold for less than $200.
In terms of specs, under the hood we have: 1.5GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4470 Processor, 1GB RAM, PowerVR SGX545 GPU, and 16GB internal storage space that can be expanded through the microSD slot that supports up to 64GB cards.
The connectivity is ensured through 802.11 N wireless and Bluetooth 4.0. It also has an accelerometer but it doesn’t pack gyroscope, compass, or GPS. The battery life is just as impressive, being able to squeeze even up to 10 hours on battery.
The Nook HD+ runs on Android 4.0.3 (operating system) so the really great news is that it includes Google Play, offering users the possibility of enjoying so many great apps. It weighs only 18.2 ounces (515 grams) so it’s fairly light, it can be effortlessly held for a longer period of time. The Nook HD+ is a 9 inch slate but I truly recommend it if you are in the search of a best 10 inch tablet under 200, this model is the best thing you can get for such a low price.
Archos 101 Titanium HD
This slate from Archos is, from my point of view, the second best option that customers have when shopping for the best 10 inch tablet under 200 dollars. There are some really attractive points and specs about this truly affordable slate. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean however there is no news for when updates of the operating system will be available. I hope this is not a deal breaker for potential customers.
The display measures 10.1 inches, it’s TFT active matrix, and it features HD resolution 1280 x 800 pixels. The image quality is pretty great with nice vivid colors and that’s important since 10 inch tablets are mainly regarded as entertainment hubs. The exterior design and the way the Archos 101 feels, it truly gives the impression of holding a real tablet that is not cheaply built.
Its lightness is another feature that impresses the holder since it weighs only 16 ounces (454 grams). This light weight was also achieved by using mostly plastic in the exterior’s construction. The battery life is ensured to last up to 8 hours.
A great advantage for this Titanium HD as a best 10 inch tablet under 200 dollars is the multitude of ports that it features: mini HDMI, micro USB, a standard USB host port, and microSD slot for expanding the storage space. There is also a front facing camera, VGA resolution (640×480 pixels), and a 2MP back camera.
Archos 101 Titanium HD is not only a low priced slate but also a pretty powerful one. It packs the following specs: 1.6GHz Dual-Core A9 Processor, 1GB RAM, Quad-core GPU Mali 400, and 8GB internal storage space that can be updated by up to 64GB through the microSD slot. For connectivity it offers 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 but no GPS.
All in all, Archos 101 is not the most amazing slate on the market but it’s a great fully functional option as the best 10 inch tablet under 200 dollars and I believe that it delivers more than it costs, just as the Nook HD+ does.
